Twitch quiz on stream: viewers answer in chat
At the end a quiz runs on your stream: the overlay shows the question, answers, time, reveal and leaderboard, and your viewers answer in Twitch chat.
What you need
- An overlay that runs as a browser source in OBS (see “Add an overlay to OBS”)
- Riglayer is connected to your Twitch account and your channel is approved
The steps
-
Create a quiz
Open the “Quiz” page and click “New quiz”. Enter a name, for example “Stream quiz”. You can create up to 30 quizzes with up to 100 questions each.
-
Add questions
Click “Add question”. Choose between a multiple-choice question (2 to 4 answers, one is correct) and a free-text question (up to 10 correct answers; upper/lower case, accents and punctuation don't matter). For each question you set the time limit and points.
- In the settings you define the default time and default points for new questions.
- With “Time bonus” fast correct answers get up to 50 % more points (only for questions with a time limit).
-
Add the quiz to the overlay
In the overlay editor click “+ Add element” and choose the “Quiz” element in the “Games” group. Select your quiz and set width, font and colors. With “Hide while no quiz is running” the area stays empty until it starts.
-
Run the quiz
On the quiz page one big button guides you through the flow: “Start quiz (question 1)”, then “Close answers”, “Reveal” and “Next question”. “Show leaderboard” shows the current standings. The space bar always jumps to the next sensible step, which also works with a Stream Deck key. When the time runs out, Riglayer closes the question itself.
-
How viewers answer
Viewers write their answer in the Twitch chat:
- Multiple choice: A to D or 1 to 4 (also “!b” or “c)”)
- Free text: the whole message is the answer
- Only a person's first answer counts; with free text, wrong answers may be repeated
Tips and common problems
- The correct answer only appears in the overlay after the reveal. The overlay page doesn't even receive the solution beforehand.
- Optionally Riglayer writes the question, reveal and final result from your account into chat (“Announce questions and reveal in Twitch chat” in the quiz settings).
- Only one quiz runs per channel at a time. The leaderboard is kept until you reset the quiz.
