Create Twitch alerts for OBS: follow, sub, bits, raid and more
At the end your overlay shows an alert live for follows, subs, bits, channel points, raids and hype trains, with your own text and optionally an image, GIF and sound.
What you need
- An overlay that runs as a browser source in OBS (see “Add an overlay to OBS”)
- Riglayer is connected to your Twitch account and your channel is approved
The steps
-
Create an alert
Open the “Alerts” page and click “New alert”. Give it a name, for example “Main alert”. You maintain look and texts only here, not in the overlay. This lets you use the same alert in several overlays.
-
Set up events and texts
The “Events and texts” section lists Follow, Sub, Resub, Gift subs, Bits, Channel points, Raid and Hype train. Turn each event on or off and write its text. Placeholders like {user} (name), {bits} or {viewers} are inserted with a click on the chips.
- The gear icon in a row (for events that have settings) opens more options: minimum amount (for example only from 100 bits) and separate texts per sub tier.
- You choose an image or GIF and a sound (MP3, OGG, WAV) right in the row with “Choose image/GIF …” and “Choose sound …”; you set the volume next to the sound and listen with the play button.
- The “Default text” button in the row takes you back to the original text at any time.
-
Adjust the look
Set width, font size, font, duration, text color and background. The preview shows the alert at original size; “Show” plays the animation.
-
Test it
With the “Test” button in an event's row you send a sample event to all overlays that contain this alert. This way you see the alert in OBS without anyone having to follow or subscribe.
-
Add the alert to the overlay
Click “Add to overlay” and choose your overlay. Alternatively use “+ Add element” in the editor and choose “Alert” in the “Twitch” group. The “Alerts only” template gives you a quick start as a separate browser source for OBS.
- Alert elements can be moved but not scaled; you set the size in the alert.
-
Control the queue
When many events arrive at once, Riglayer lines the alerts up one after another. On the “Controls” page you can pause the queue, resume it, skip the current alert, repeat the last one or clear everything, also via Stream Deck. You need the “Operate the alert queue” right for this; as the channel owner you have it.
Tips and common problems
- You only hear the alert sound in the real OBS source. The editor and the preview images are silent on purpose.
- To give the sound its own slider in the OBS audio mixer, enable “Control audio via OBS” in the browser source.
- With “Triggers” (“If … then …”) you can also fire alerts, sounds, counters or channel actions from events or chat messages.
